Adam Carothers, born 1 October, 1782, was unique. His father spelled their name Carrothers, his children were Carothers. Adam went by Caruthers and then changed his name to Carrithers after he became provoked over something with the family line. He even changed his religion to Methodist (changes to religion were not made very often at that time) and built a chapel in Spencer, Co., KY that was known as Carrithers Chapel. The chapel was still in good condition in 1931.
